Solution to the lack of popularity of chess - betting!

Chess is losing popularity. FIDE should introduce betting. I believe it can start with chess.com. Chess.com can bring chess to a whole new level. Imagine macer playing a bitz game, and in a separate section on chess.com you can place wagers? It would be a virtual betting area that won't affect the players, but you can bet and make wagers. It can be between master players, and also regular members. Chess.com should look into this.

What are you talking about? Poker does it all the time. Maybe chess.com need something like aceguard.

If they were honest, they would tell you there are many nearly impossible to detect ways to cheating.

The first that comes to mind is only using an engine to gain just enough advantage that your own ability can win the game. This type of cheating is pretty much impossible to detect because making an occassional 'out of skill move' can be made by anyone.

These systems really only work for blantant cheating.

What if you could double down and play two different moves creating branching games?

match fixing would become rife in chess as it so easy and the prize money isnt high. poker has the safeguard of high winning stakes at least

Betting at stuffy chess.com?  No chance OP.  More's the pity.

That sounds like an awesome idea! How would it work exactly?

I wonder if the people if Canada are bombarded with encouragement to gamble as much as they are in the UK. Gambling ruins lives. It is addictive, and unlike drink or drugs, you don't fall over before you gamble your life away. We don't need more opportunities using this civilised game.

Humble is correct about gambling. As someone who has come close to sliding down the abyss myself I can tell you it’s far from a good place to be.

If you’ve never been there read The Gambler by F Dostoevsky. It’ll open your eyes to how it feels to gamble and it’s all consuming destructive ways.

Keep chess websites gamble free please.
