Despite knowing all of these terms, when talking in instant-messenging mediums (such as an IRC or chess.com TV chatbox) I am prone to calling a game a match. I don't know why, but my brain does not distinguish at speed!

I have noticed in various threads where people refer to one game of chess as a "match" and to the current WC match as a " tournament". There are chess glossaries on the net where definitions can be easily located but apparently not everyone knows this, or maybe just dont care. If you or I play one game against someone else it is a game, and not a match. A match , in chess, is 2 or more games between the same 2 individuals. A tournament involves more than 2 people/competitors. Anand and Topalov are playing a match ( not tournament ) consisting of 12 games ( not matches ) against each other for the world championship.
