I was only 13 years old and had begun to learn the moves the previous year without much interest. My professor Mr. Díaz knew nothing about the legendary Fischer/Spasskij Rematch that had just passed nor did he mention the WCC Match in London that was taking place or was supposed to take place that year. But he sure spoke enthusiastically about a 16-yr-old phenomenon that was turning GM's into mashed potatoes.

Judith Polgar left me fascinated with chess. Her 1993 match with Spassky were some of first games master games I saw. Funny thing the professor didn't mention in the beginning it was female player. That he revealed at the end of the class. "Can you believe this is a 16 year old girl from Europe? In that game she beat a Grandmaster with decades of experience."

I became even more fascinated. Weeks later I was shown a picture of her, and part of me fell in lovehappy.pnghappy.png But that's another story.
