Can you play at chess.com using this board?  I'm wondering if I got it, if I could play (for example) a 15/10 against anyone on it, or does your opponent have to have the board?

The opponent doesn't need a board.

For all people who have already the thing: how are you using it mostly? To play against humans or against the computer? Did you have any problems yet?
Brioma33

So far I have had no problems. It has worked perfectly. I play against people more often than the computer, but I still play against the computer too. The computer has 20 different levels.

As of yet, the Square Off Chess board does not sync up with chess.com

I am asking myself what I can do if the computer begin to make problems. It is the kind of thing we should expect from a product which is rather new.

It makes a great center piece on my table lol you should get it!

I will. I am wondering since years why nobody produced such a computer. It is a great idea and it can once get very widespread among online players.

The square off app is powered by chess.com. This is very new but as time goes more updates will be released to make it more integrated with chess.com. I know one of their goals is to have square off be able to play any one on chess.com directly.

Really starting to get fired up... latest update is a joke. I was one of the first 170 people in the whole world to believe in your project and pay money to this thing. You claim you shipped 1300 boards yet mine isn’t one of them. I’m not alone in this obviously as there are people even before me who feel the same way. Now your out of materials and are asking for another month yet again to post an update to shipping........🥊

Brioma33

It was a long wait for mine too. All I can say is that for me, it was worth the wait. There is a lot fun at the end of the wait.

People have received theirs so at least you know it’s not a scam and only a wait.

DGT boards are not even remotely close to Square Off Chess, what kind of comparison are you trying to make? The DGT is far more expensive too.

Square Off chess is similar to Phantom chess which was in fashion a few years ago. Phantom chess cost less though. DGT board is by far much superior and it can be connected to chess websites like ICC, Playchess.com, lichess and many others. Also DGT board is standard tournament size.

I was not aware of Phantom Chess. Nur my main motivation to buy Square Off is that I can play online. By the way, most of us are buying it because it is a cool toy. It is something I want to use to motivate me to use the physical board more often.

Trollmaster probably knows this, but the main feature difference that separates Square Off from DGT boards is that Square Off moves your opponent's pieces for you.  With DGT boards, you have to manually move your opponent's pieces.  The people interested in Square Off for this feature, which is almost all of the people interested in Square Off at all, would not be interested in DGT boards since they do not have this feature.

A direct comparison of the two products that does not mention this is dishonest and deceptive, or ignorant at best.

I have ordered the Grand Kingdom set. I realize these guys have come a long way in 4 years.  Lets not forget it is a startup.  They have continued to professionalize many of the aspects, the features will come. I would rather wait until they can ship the finest product rather than rush and cut corners.  They are working out many of the aspects which will be needed to mass produce the item I am sure.  It is going to be something everyone can afford  in a quality package.  They have a commitment from chess.com which will make the unit a huge success but they need the put in place the ability to mass produce the item.  I would suspect that once all the production issues are in order the features will come.  The chess world will change in a way I know I will enjoy.  Over time more and more units will be delivered and we will all begin to enjoy the features which made us purchase one in the first place.  I am told my order will take 8 to 12 weeks, if the ends up longer fine I am willing to wait as the chess.com comparability will take them some time anyway.

In any case they should be transparent about when the board will arrive.
