That's true, I was buying mine as a gift to my cousin because he loves all things chess, and thought it would be fun to have something different.

I asked square for a refund though because I had no confidence that they would ever get me the board, they had pushed delivery back again to the middle of December! I was concerned that they wouldn't issue a refund either as two days had passed and no reply, but luckily they did.

This almost year long nightmare is over!

Yeah, they're pretty slow to respond to refund emails. I'm in the process of attempting a refund since their app (as nice as it seems to be) uses a constant 100% cpu which drains battery like crazy and causes the phone to get warm.

Just an FYI, if you buy any product on kickstarter or Indiegogo, which I am assuming you are discussing the NEO or Swap, you are part of a crowdfunding campaign.  There is no guarantee you will get the product, let alone get the product on time.

Yikes!! Anyone else having problems with the smartphone besides lotsoblots?

Please write about it here if this is creating a problem for you?  I can always cancel it I paid via PayPal. Actually, unless you did Kickstarter which has its own caveats it is not kosher to charge MC or VISA or AE or DISCOVER if the product is back-ordered. When you sign up to be a merchant they are very specific about that.  I know I did it all a few years back for about 15 years.  I do know any USA chess purveyor I have dealt with always waits till the shipment day to charge my account no matter what I use.  Off the top alphabetically to show no favoritism American Chess Equipment, Chees4Less, Chess House, HOS/USCF/Wholesale Chess. Also overseas Official Staunton in the UK.  Sorry if I left anyone out but I do not think I used any other companies in the last couple of years.

Hey thanks for the reply, no It was for the grand Kingdom set that I ordered straight from their website, not part of a crowd fund campaign, original delivery date was June 30th still didn't see it by my refund request

Yikes that's a bit excessive, hopefully they can fix that with a quick update

I do hear that some board sets act slower or had issues and if u get neo or anything new it be a headache if it has issues again that's why to me it's all gimmicks with that money u can get a nice set better looking pieces.   Do these have any extra quuens I dont believe they do??

After 2 years of waiting for my Swap, believe me when I say I have issues with the company, but yes it does come with extra queens.  And yes, shipment seems to have been delayed once again...

They just replied an hour ago that assembly has not started on the SWAP or NEO. I wonder what the excuse is this time.

The Gand Kingdom Set may be out very shortly? I see it advertised on the HOS site so that is why I am saying this. I do not think they would advertise it if it wasn't due to hit their shop in the near future.

Maybe HOS can chime in on it.  You can get 15% off of retail this week I believe.

About the SOP. They are selling it everywhere in stock. Chess vendors, Amazon, and others.  Looks like they are literally selling hundreds of units. They must have many in the pipeline.

I held off purchasing the $280 DGT Centaur (and future DGT Pegasus) because of SoP. Will wait until the dust settles before choosing one. I like that the DGT Centaur can be played "offline" without a cell phone or internet connection. Interesting times for chess players nowadays.

Waited a long time to get my Grand Kingdom Set - but it was completely worth the wait. It works amazingly and never had an issue with it. So when the Neo came out i put in my order immediately and forgot about it. It'll come when it comes and I am sure i will be highly satisfied.  Y'all patience level is remarkably low. As if covid and supply chains for everything hasn't been messed up for two years now. Relax.

A second request to cancel and refund my unshipped order has been sent to squareoff...they ignored the first just as they ignored the support query for the major application bug. If this one is also ignored then next week's email will be warning them of the impending chargeback. Definitely not a fan of this company right now.

Ugh, sorry to hear that lotsoblots, I guess a question if you have any consult with,

If I ordered from Amazon today their order web page states a return date of 1/31/22.

Do you think that's solid given what you are experiencing?

No one is having problems with orders through 3rd parties at the moment, like Amazon or HoS.  It's entirely ordering directly from the company itself that people are having issues.

Avatar of lotsoblots

Yeah, for better or worse amazon has been very solid in my experience, especially with returns which are almost braindead easy now.

Update: I received an email response from square off and they asked me to fill out a google doc (!!!) so they can begin the RMA process (!!!) and then requested I pack the board securely (!!!). They completely ignored my emails and my order status where it's clear the board hasn't even shipped. Asking a customer to fill out a google doc is one of the most absurd things I've ever even heard a company do! Buyer beware!
