Stalemate in advance games


In games with strong players and long time controls it's extremely rare for the winning side to error by stalemate.
But stalemate is much more than an error. The fact that it's a draw forms a large foundation of endgames and therefore middelgame strategy. Without it, chess as a game would be much more shallow.
So while grandmaster games hardly ever end in stalemate (I'm not aware of any played at long time controls) the idea of it is always lurking in the variations.
