Stalemate?

I admit I am new and lost a game I clearly would have won by putting my oponent in a stalemate.  Are there any other rules that I should be aware of that can end up getting you in the end?

A stalemate isn't a loss, but a draw, so when you're behind in a game, it may be worth looking for ways to get your opponent to put you into stalemate.

Capturing en passant is another rule that tends to catch people off guard, so that may also be worth looking into.

Now I see why you should never submit.

I got nailed on that one just last week.  I didn't have an overwhelming material advantage, merely 1 knight and a pawn.  However, my positioning appeared solid and I had rendered his black bishop useless as it was trapped in a corner.  Then came the pawn capture en passant.  I was on defense the rest of the game...
