Stories behind the pieces

Last night the driver from Russia who picked me up from the airport shared a few stories with me about the different chess pieces.....the King he said can only move 1 space because he is very old and blind. His daughter ( the Queen) he said fell off a horse and is very frightened of horses which is why the Queen can move like all the other pieces EXCEPT the "horse" / knight . Does anyone else know any other stories regarding the pieces or game?
