Stuck at 1100

I started playing about 7 months ago and have been stuck at around 1100 for the last 4 months.  I started doing puzzles a couple months ago and am currently at level 1700, but I can't seem to get my live chess rating to increase.  I analyze every game but it doesn't seem to help.  I did 10 minute games for a long time but in the last few months have been trying to play mainly 15 | 10 games.  Any tips?

I went thru the same problem.

I took a quick look at your stats from the surface:

1. You are playing well as white in general with a 57% winning rate. However, you are breaking even against d5 and c5. I would recommend learning an anti-Sicilian line and an aggressive Scandinavian line. Plenty of YouTube’s videos.

As black, you defend well with d5 against d4 but poorly with e6. I would ditch e6 moving forward and review your d5 games to find which defense is working/learning for you.

In conclusion, learn an anti Sicilian, learn how to attack the Scandinavian and stick to a d5 defense against d4. Those three things will eliminate your statistical weaknesses moving forward and equate to 5-10 extra wins (40-80 ELO points) for every 100 games you will play

Other than that, you’re playing very well.

Ah thank you Chuck639!!  That's incredibly helpful.  Actually in the meantime since posting this I've lost yet another game playing e6, to reiterate your point.  Definitely time to try something different, and to check out some more videos on those things.  I really appreciate the help!!

My pleasure! I would not be surprised to see you at 1500 in no time. You are putting in the effort and your statistics are ahead of par so keep playing!

1. since you have a membership after each (rapid) game use the analysis and look at first 10 moves, were there any mistakes or even blunders? Focus on very little mistakes in the opening moves.

2. Dont dive to much into openings but at your level you could start learning 1-2 simple ones watch some videos on Youtube such as Gotham chess. the bigger thing is learning the principles and thoughts behind each move in a opening. for example get knights to the middle in active squares bishops out castle...

3. If your losing a bunch in a row just stop, its called tilt. wait even a day or two and start to play again.

4. Do lots of puzzles it will help your tactics.

5. when you analyze look for missed tactics and try to memorize them, say if its a pin so his piece cant take make a note for in the future to look for pins.

6. Have fun after all thats what chess is all about happy.png
