stuck in v3

so, it appears v3 is now the norm. logged on and here i am.

one issue i have with it is that, at the top of my homepage, i see chessboards to click for a lesson that i don't want, or, whatever else cc is selling. I would be more specific, but there appears no preview option for new forum topics so i could go back to the awful display prior to posting.

the overall look of the site seems uncoordinated. do i have alerts, as before? hell if i know. it also looks as if the layout was designed by one that is only looking at a projected revenue stream, instead of recognizing why members visit.

to that point, i wonder if cc is only concerned with the dollars. i recently read of how many new members cc has....

*sigh*

do any of us care? what we care about is people we can have good games with, and, for some, discussion of the game, or, levity. The latter are those that cc seems to be abandoning, in my view.

(i hope i can find this topic later as i try to navigate this mess)

Did you try www.chess.com/classic ? It will switch the layout to something reminiscent of V2.

PS: you can also control the layout of the home page via this link: https://www.chess.com/settings/home-interface

lps, yes, i was able to find the previous version, thank you.

the overriding issue, as seen by some of us, is "if it isn't broke, don't fix it". I can undestand upgrades need to be made, but v3 is very different, starting with the layout of the homepage. the change to v2 was not nearly as drastic as this. navigation is quite different. while i'm sure there are some site redesign functions that work better for some.

is average user interface better? was it ever discussed?

in my opinion, v2 worked very well for members. There were bugs, yes. even though i'm not a programmer, i play one on tv, and my cast members and i think that rewriting a script is worse than tweaking what you have.

Uncoordinated is apt. Cumbersome also fits, I believe. I will say, the more I use V3 the more I like, but takes some major re-learning, if you will.

V3 and V2 is like comparing the small Nokia cellphones (not smartphone) and the iPhones (smartphone), they are completely different, some people were doubtful about the change at first, but at the end everyone (almost) agreed that smartphones are better.

I started with V2 and it was so comfortable from day 1. V3, not so much.

well put. i've been here for years. why make me, and other longtime members, re-learn how to navigate a site we go to for fun.

if it's a pain in the ass to navigate, some will leave.

I started with V2, played correspondence chess for weeks because I thought that was "online" chess. When I figured out how to play live chess I resigned my ongoing correspondence games. In V3 I was quite confused at the beginning because I could not find some features, but I overcame this after a week. I moved from V2 to V3 because of the unlimited quick analysis feature, but at the end I found V3 to be an enjoyable interface.

perhaps that's the difference. if those like you, eager, have to have their chess, it's what makes you learn the new format.

i have neither the time or wont to learn a new site that i have been a member of for years. i knew of the functions and where to find them.

i don't see the complete redesign, told to us to be fantastic, as anything but.

I just got my badge for the two year anniversary a couple of hours ago. I played in V2 for about 6 months (I don't recall the exact time), then tried V3, and went back to V2. After a few days I decided to try V3 for one week and "explore" the new site, it was not as intuitive as V2, but it was worth the effort.

I don't understand why you feel so entitled as to prevent a website from advancing its feature set just because you're used to the way it was.  The fact of the matter is that V2 was limiting from a coding standpoint and the site wants to provide more features for its members.  It's really not even THAT different.  I don't even know why chess.com is so kind as to allow you whiners the option to use V2.

entitled? v2 limited? read again.

yes, it is that different.

if there is a coding issue it could be done without changing the site completely. providing more features had been done in the two previous versions without a complete rewrite.

What's so different about it?  What aren't you able to locate or whats more difficult logistically as far as site navigation?

v3 seems clearly designed for smartphone use. More people are using smartphones to surf the web nowadays so they simply had to redesign the site. I agree that v2 is more pleasing on a desktop PC but it is just about impossible to use on a smartphone. Many regular websites are facing this problem these days of having to redesign their sites for mobile use. AlCzervik, you using desktop right, not smartphone?

I have posted a link  to this thread in the Chess.com V3 group (aka club) where the feedback such as in this thread will reach eyes of the developers (and Erik's) much easier than in General Chess Discussion. I suppose that many people here might not have been aware of this group's existence...

In the start I didnt like V3. Thats cause i tried it one year ago when it was a beta version.

Now I Love it! Its far better than V2. If you can adapt to the homepage and even do the classic view I belive you can do fine!

The only issue I have with v3 is when Im using android phone. The site does not respond when im touching icons etc etc.

But on PC and Ipad v3 is GREAT!

Why don't you use the mobile app?
