IM Pruess has a good article on improving.  It's post #35 in this thread:

I'm not sure about the chess.com study plans - haven't seen them - but I do many of the things Dan Heisman recommends.  It works a lot better than randomly reading chess books which is what I used to do.

I didn't take advantage at all, she only had one glass and could still say "indubitably" with a straight face.
