Studying books: Online of Offline?

Hello all,

I started studying books (tactics, endgames, etc.), so I was wondering, what do you find to be more useful: setting the board and going through the moves or use for example chess.com analysis board where you can set up a certain position and practice it with a computer?

Is one better (more beneficial) than the other? What are the pros and cons?

Regards

When you things like Chessable courses we are able to go through a higher number of positions than when you use a physical board. A physical board (and perhaps a travel set to study variations) is preferable when you go slowly through a game, reading the comments of an author.

I read chess books and see the positions in my head (sometimes and not thoroughly). I read chess books while using a PGN files of the games on my computer or iPad. Currently, I’m working my way through Irving Chernev, The 1000 Best Short Games of Chess (1955) with games in tChessPro on the iPad and a copy of the book beside me for reading the annotations and wry comments. I’m on game 666.

I read chess books at a table with a chessboard set up, playing through the moves and variations.

I finish chess books more often when they are put into CBV format so I can read them on the screen in ChessBase. Everyman does this with many books. Chess Informant comes to me as book and CD so that I can read them this way.

Online if you want to get better online. Offline if you want to get better offline. But after some time there is not much difference.
