Suffering from Brain rust & time pressure

Well my long awaited comeback to Chess is stalled. After many years absence I am back & playing a load of rubbish that is downright embarrassing. My theory is ok & opening knowledge is not too bad just a little out of date but my OTB calculating ability is shot to hell. I am making beginners mistakes due to Chess blindness & it is partly due to time pressure as well as Brain rust.

I live where there is no local Chess club so internet or computer are my only options.

I have always suffered from time pressure in tournaments but never like this. I play 30 min games & once it gets interesting I blunder. Ideally I would like a 60 minute game option but this site doesn't offer it. I don't want to go to 1 day per move etc, it won't cure this problem. I played snail mail correspondence years ago & did pretty well but it promotes a different style of game & won't fix my current problem.

So any ideas, apart from just playing lots of games?

Your conditions of style of play are pretty complicated. No human player would play a 60 min games on Internet. He would die of boredom!! Well I suggest u to download an engine to suit ur style of play.

I'm just looking to get past the time pressure & get my calculating power back. Then I should be fine on 30 minute games. Blundering under time pressure is slowing me down. I have a coupe of good chess engines but they aren't the same as a live opponent.

You can set a custom time limit to be longer than 30 minuts. There are groups dedicated to playing longer games. For instance, most members of DHLC are interested in playing 45|45 and 90|30 games.

???

I've played dozens of games over just the last two weeks that lasted over 60 minutes.  There are leagues set up for 45/45 games that last 2-4 hours. Let's go - shake the cobwebs out of your head and wake up! Not everybody is a child in school!!

Why do people who play blitz chess on chess.com think that's the only variation and venue where chess exists at this point?

As a beginner I go through the same thing as you sometimes.  My advice is to just keep playing.  Nothing's going to improve your tactical ability more, or help you blunder less, than just playing more and getting back in the rhythm.

Look around this site and over on ICC.  There are a lot of players looking for standard time control games where you can slowly get your tactical vision back.
