Why not call it by its original name, chariot? We could even use the Persian word, rukh.

We must make sure that the rook does not feel inferior the queen; we must boost its self esteem as much as possible so it retains interest in helping our army! Therefore I totally and completely support the name change to "diagonally challenged queen!"

Did you and Ayush just asume a Rook's gender?

UncleHAL9000

Pawns are transgendered. They can actually become male or female. So why not call rooks drag queens. Everybody knows what the bishop is.

The rook (/rʊk/; ♖,♜) is a piece in the game of chess. Formerly the piece (from Persian رخ rokh/rukh) was called the tower, marquess or rector.

Wicked_Mickey

in the British Museum's collection of the medieval Lewis chess pieces the rooks appear as stern warders or wild-eyed Berserker warriors.

Wicked_Mickey

berserker is cool

willitrhyme

I propose to henceforth refer to it as 'tower', based on the German 'Turm'. 😀
