survey: are you an 1.e4 person or a 1.d4 person

Now it's d4. I always played 1. e4 until I started experimenting with 1. d4 just before leaving chess many years ago. Upon returning to the game last year, I found myself enjoying d4 positions much more than e4 positions.

I started with f4 due to its small number of lines.  I switched to d4 trying to get BMD.  As an adult, so for the past thirty years, I play e4 in serious games, although I switch to the KIA when faced with certain defenses.

Long story short, I have played every opening moves a4 and h4.

Except according to some opening explorers d4 wins more games....

They didn't have computer analysis in his day. And just because he was a world champ doesn't mean you should take his every utterance as gospel truth.

no move is better than the other. it's personal prefence
