I believe it does, which is why I do about 45 min. worth of tactics each day on chesstempo.com..
Tactical improvement in check
Studying endgames also won’t improve your chess strength. I spent the last few months doing nothing but practicing King Knight Bishop vs King endgame checkmate pattern and I’m not much better at chess.
Hi Kempelen,
Daily tactical exercises will undoubtly benefit you. However, if you're not a seasoned player yet, TT may not be the best way to start working on your tactics.
You may first want to get acquainted with the various basic tactical motives with a specialized book and practice lots of thematic exercises so that you become familiar with the main tactical patterns.
There are many books that can help you here, like Seïrawan's, or Weteschnik's - just pick one. There are also dedicated software.
Hello,
Does doing tactical problems every day improves your strenght as a chess player? After months doing lot of tactical exercises daily I have my doubts: almost 90% of the problems (even more) which I have contabilized all involved king security as the main tactical theme... and learning so many pattern with king involved, although good, it could cause you to look for ghosts in OTB games where positional or other motifs are in play. Even more, as you are only trained to look for tactical shots involving king, you are loosing many clock time for things which does not happend.
For my it has been good, or at least that I feel, but have serious doubts this is the correct method to train.
What do you thing? are there any tactical book which offer more positions with other themes?
