Tactics is a joke

I think you'll find they are time based here. sit around thinking about the move/s you'll pay. it's not like other untimed chess sites.

That's a reasonable argument. You even used the correct form of "it's" and I was really hoping you'd screw that up. In conclusion, the professor has been schooled.
This thread is still terrible.

nope, it's 'is' because I'm referring to Tactics as a proper noun, but nice try professor

And if you play a lower rated player you don't gain much rating points if you win but loose quite a lot when you loose. So ratings are also a joke in your universe ?

not really, they are pretending to be someone they are not and the fool, shall we this say in italian, abbocca
The scores have nothing to do with time. it doesn't matter if I spend 10 minutes or 10 seconds, the scoring is the same. Tactics is a fun game mode, but the scoring is so inconsistent it may as well be meaningless. I can get 4/5 correct and my overall rating still decreases. Boooooo. Just today my wrong move was scored (-14) and it was a matter of trading with a knight first instead of a bishop in a multi piece sacrifice aka an arbitrary choice, and the combined correct moves for the remaining 4 puzzles netted a combined +7. Booooooooooo.

m8, you don't know the struggle. Here it's a nanny version of tactics, because you get rating even just by solving a part of the puzzle - on most other sites, you fail the tactic and lose the same amount of rating no matter if you missed the first move or the last one. Also, you can't expect to be gaining rating all the time.

Tactics scoring here is based on time. There is the Target Time to get a 100% score and then based on how long you take to solve over that in comparison to the Average Time, your score will decrease. The amount of points available, isn't based on time.
You most certainly will get a different score on a problem solved in 10 seconds vs the same one solved in 10 minutes. In the latter case, you will likely only get 1 point.
As to your example, I'm pretty sure the choice was not arbitrary. The move order was likely the only one that was winning or maintained the evaluation (depending on the problem type).
