You can turn off the timer and the rating and choose a target range of problems.
Coach Heisman like the range 800 to 950 for "burning in" basic tactics and getting the patterns down.  Me, I'm addicted to my crappy rating...

Does anyone else think like I do, that ratings in the TT are a complete waste of time? We are doing the training to learn and improve, but the ratings seem to be designed to demoralise and belittle; we should be able to turn off the ratings.

It would be nice. Or at least turn off the timer, if you compete against the clock it breaks down the mental dicipline needed to succeed at normal chess. Its pretty comparible to "blitz" mode on chess tempo but I do like it better because there is a better variety of problems such as problems that escape attack by opponent and that stalemate or win only a pawn.

Yes the ratings are useful.  It is used to rate both you and the puzzles.  It allows you to get harder puzzles as you improve.  I have seen complaints but after 5,000 puzzles I don't see the problem.  It works very well.
