Taking Breaks From Chess To Improve?

Sort:
Avatar of Knights132

Due to the fact that I had quite a bit of schoolwork for the past one week, I took a break from chess (about a week). This does not mean that I was completely disconnected because I still attended my school's chess club (once a week). Before I began the break, my rating was dropping from about 1500 to 1425. I came back yesterday, and all of a sudden my rating has gone up to 1497. Is this a pure coincidence, or is there actual data that links breaks to increased improvement?

A small break may raise your ratings due to coincidence, or, it may have allowed you to regroup some energy and focus, allowing to improve a bit.
