I dont like to chat because we will lose our concentration on the game.Cool

I don't chat during live games either. I use up most of my time thinking about moves, if I were switching hands between the keyboard and mouse I'd lose on time too much. After the chat I'll throw out a "well played" or "fun game" depending on how well I think they played, and I'm usually up for chatting a bit too if they want to talk about the game.

In online games I do like to get to know the person I'm playing, but I usually get no response so I haven't been trying to get conversations started as often.

Is it really considered bad ettiquette to turn down a rematch? Usually if I'm playing live I just want to play a quick 20 minute game and be done with it, so often times I'll decline rematch offers.

I usually do not chat much during a first game with an opponent, but find that the more times I face that opponent the more we chat. I do not hold it against someone who wants to play without speaking. "Trash Talkers" are the ones I avoid. I know some people enjoy that sort of competition. It's just not for me.

Different people want different things out of chess.  For some it is a social exercise, and talking is essential.  For others, they just want to play and talking gets in the way.

I am of the opinion that people at my level have no need to take themselves too seriously, but when playing 1-0 time control, even then talking is not possible, although a 'gg' never hurt anyone.  I say friend the people that play the same style you like, then after a while you can play against only people that do/don't chat, depending on your preferences.

Sometimes I feel like saying a few words and sometimes I don't. IMO, if you want to have a conversation do it in private messages. I'm here to play chess not to be a chatty Cathy.

Well summed up.

On another note, and cheers echecs06, how does one go about reporting the d1cks? Far as I see, there are bots for moderation, which will of course fail to pick up the last word of my previous sentence! Don't find a 'report member for abuse' function anywhere either. Anyone know?

I always say "Hi :) " when starting a game

Out of 30 games played, I have had 2 chats. The rest say nothing.

Chatting during a game could be fun.

Peace
