Bobby Fischer is also my favorite player! And I too am trying to reach 1700+. Did you know there is a chess master giving free lesson on YouTube using the name Bobby Fischer. I've been watching these videos, am currently viewing the 69 member games he analyzes and find them interesting and very helpful. The masters tell us we would benefit by going over games and this is a fun way to do it. Check them out! https://www.youtube.com/user/BobbyJFischer1943/playlists

I don't think it makes much of a difference whether you study e.g. tactics before endgames or endgames before tactics... but I'm not a coach, so I can't be sure.

Getting better comes in two parts though. I really like your plans for studying, but at the same time it's important to play and analyze your games. Ideally as you read, you'll also be going to tournaments or visiting clubs or playing long games online, something like this. Need to practice using that new knowledge (as well as game fundamentals like making practical moves, managing the clock, calculation, etc etc.)

You are right man. I play 15|10 games here on chess.com. what's your way of analysing games? you write down your thoughts on each move or use a computer to just go through the game and find your mistakes?

None of your study will matter unless you constantly try to play and apply these things to make them second nature . try to play alot . Just my opinion .

First you have to inspect all your games preferable with a strong player you have to find your weaknesses . I inspected one of your games . You seem to make too much tactical mistakes. Then you have to study tactics.

You can use CT ART cd from convekta ,  combination books from Dr. Nunn etc.

Take a break for a little while. It doesnt help to keep on doing chess. i havent played chess for 2 weeks, but then i went to a tournament that was under 1800 and got first place. All win and 1 draw 5 rounds

Study tactics, and mates in 2 or 3. As far as books are concerned, keep reading the game of chess, but go through it slowly. Make sure you understand ever puzzle. Then perhaps go through it again, make sure you understand the endgames and middle game sections. That should take you a long time - 9 months to a year. It appears that you may be reading the books too fast. It took me about 9 months to get through the game of chess reading it for an hour or so 5 times a week.

Good luck

45 | 45. Join one of the slow chess leagues and play at least one of those games each week.

Chris, I have holidays right now with 1 month remaining. I can spend 4 hours a day studying chess. Its really important that I study now because after 1 month I have school and its really difficult to be able to study chess so i want to use these holidays to the maximum and the tournament is in october. My school exams are in september and so these holidays is the only time i have. Ofcourse I dont want to rush through any book. Do you think 4 hours per day 1 month will do it for me?????

Dont see my rating though because i purposely dropped my rating to see if i can beat every player below 1000 rating... my average rating on the other account is 1350-1450. Sometimes it reaches 1500 but quickly drops to around 1450.

Yes I think 4 hours a day for a month would work for you. That is likely the same amount of hours that I put in. Just make sure you understand each solution and visit the ones you have troulbe with, I would skip the sections on mating with N and B and two B. Once you start reading the book it give you good advice on studying chess too.

Good luck.
