Tchigorin defense to queen's gambit

Hi all. I have noticed that on chess.com there is a fad for black to play Tchigorin type systems against d4. I have had many games as white that started 1. d4, d5. 2. Nf3, Nf6. 3. c4, Nc6. Mostly I have gotten good positions as white. Isn't it simply an inferior way for black to play? Is there any merit to black's system if it is followed up right?

Thanx for the reference. I mostly get advantage with white when I play someone of equal strength. Perhaps it is the kind of opening that can be strong, but will be bad if Black doesn't know pretty well what he is doing.
