Seems that Wombats are very popular here, but before today I had never heard about this animal.

I tried to translate it with google and it didn't work.

So I went to wikipedia. It is weird that the Portuguese article was titled Vombatidae and the name of the animal is never mentioned (Vombatidae is the Wombats family)

The article Common Wombat is titled Vombatus ursinus in Portuguese Wikipedia and, again, no vulgar name is given, only cientific Latin.

I guess we don't even have a name for them!

Very interesting. And yes, wombats are quite popular latelyLaughing

The OP should have named the thread "Cats, Wombats, and Llamas", instead of naming it "800"Laughing

Are they popular as pets in USA or only their photos?

By the way, I searched more deeply and found some Portuguese texts that call them Vombate.

Damn you, useless Wikipedia!

What kind of noises do they make? Like a purr, or a bark?

Wombats tend to be more vocal during mating season. When angered, they can make hissing sounds. Their call sounds somewhat like a pig's squeal. ...

Better in the same way that a knight is better than a bishop and waffles are better than pancakes and Fischer was better than Kasparov!Laughing
