Could be that you are better than your friends or other people you play OTB, but  when you come here there are millions of players from around the world, many of them excellent players.  For example, my nephew says that he can beat most kids his age (17) that he plays, but he's never beaten me once.  I can beat most people I know OTB, but on here it's easy for me to lose.  It could be a matter of perspective.

If you know the basic openings and mates you can usually beat 90%+ of people who know the rules of chess.

Most people know the rules of chess like they know the rules of Ludo or Connect 4. They learned the rules but don't really care after that.

Don't worry about it, you will get good.

Bingo.  What you call a "chess player" may not be what someone else does.

How many chess books have you read thoroughly, how many tournaments have you played in?  How many losses have haunted you for months or years?  How many times have you woken up in the middle of the night with the solution to a combination or maneuvers in your sleep?  How many hours have you spent analysing your recorded games?

Beginners would think I just described your average grandmaster or even world champion, but in fact this easily describes the average to upper strength amateur tourney player, lets say B class to expert.

Beginners indeed think of "I'm good at chess" the way I think I'm "good at ping pong"  But if I ping pong anyone who plays more than 4-5 times a year I'm dead.

Some of the people you face here have lost more games than you've made individual chess moves.  Considering each loss is a lesson you're up against some tough people.  Of course you can get just as good over time.

Yes, casual players are extremely weak.

Once I started taking chess seriously, I easily began beating my dad and brother.

I’m by far the best in the family, but I am still fodder online. :)
