The Spassky Fischer match in '72 was dubbed the Match Of The Century as most of you know. Because of the cold war at that time in history the match was more than just a world championship match, but also a USA versus Russia kind of thing. How bout in todays times we have a new match since it's a brand new century. A 1 Million Dollar Match Winner Takes All, covered by all the major television networks and marketed extensively during preceeding months getting the publics attention to chess again like it did back when. Something like this below for a million bucks would keep me glued to the big screen.

Maybe we could use a wax Bobby Fischer dummy....Boris is still alive, so nothing is impossible. Of course an chess engine should play Fischer's moves.

Why does Chess have a reputation of attracting lonely/depressed/odd people? Is that part of the general publics aversion to it, that its seen as having very low social value.

Why does football have a reputation of attracting thugs and wife beaters?  Is that part of the general public's aversion to it, that its seen as having very low social value.  I'm purposely exaggerating.  Any profession will have offbeats and people of low moral character but that doesn't mean the majority are like that.

My own passion for competitive chess is due to the Fischer/Spassky match of 1972 . I therefore credit/blame both of them for my being a chessoholic ! From that match these two world champions have been my top 2 chess idols , with Fischer being the better player of the two but Boris the better human being and one of the greatest sportsmen/gentleman to ever play the game .

Family agrees and couldn't have said it any better.
