The Arena System is trash

In the Royal Arena Kings a load of 1500s and 1100s finished ahead of about 10 GMs, this just isn’t right, chess.com should implement a feature where as you get closer to the top of the leaderboard, you only play people higher rated than you, to stop things like this when bad players win tournaments ahead of GMs simply because they have less competition.

I agree, most of the time people win solely because of the levels they are paired up against. A great deal of luck comes into play with their arena tournament system, unfortunately

Sounds like someone didn’t win

The other type of tournament has always been available- the Swiss system. There, winners are paired with winners and the best players usually win or at least finish close to the top.

Nobody is forcing anybody to play in an arena tournament.

I mean, if you think about it... what would a free for all arena battle look like in ancient times? The winner there would be luck too.

I've won arenas being one of the middle seeds, and yeah, you just need to be lucky in a few games you were losing and manage to get a perfect score.

This post needs constant upvotes until chess.com remove their stupid pairing algorithm that massively favours sandbagging cheats, absolute garbage players that don't even deserve to live they are so awful.

The original Arena system, the rating based one, was designed in a way that anyone can win them, regardless of rating.

There's a new option of a score based Arena, that pairs based on scores instead, which should end up with mostly higher rated players towards the top.
