What about alkeline
The best chess player ever

achievements on the other hand, and contributions... ah well, enough of that. it's just pretty telling that you cannot name one contribution of fischer that is of utter importance. might be time to rethink the fanboyism.
I am not a Fischer fanatic, but I consider him to have made significant contributions to (1) Sicilian theory, and (2) King's Gambit theory. His "bust" of the King's Knight Gambit was later busted in turn, but the move 3...d6 remains important. In the Sicilian, he pioneered huge changes in how White attacks Black in some variations.
was it really busted???
Busted in the sense of being shown wrong; Fischer claimed White loses but no forced win has ever been found for Black.

I would like to say Petrosian and Carlsen are the best ever! Petrosian's understanding of positional play remains unequaled to this day while Magnus' dynamic, tactical and universal skills are also the best in history!

I agree with all of the above, except Magnus. He is just the highest rated player atm. He hasn't beaten anybody. All he did was winning the candidate tournament, and it was close call.

The strongest chess player ever was Vasily Alexeev; only an idiot -- or someone living in a cave and unaware of the Olympiad -- would dispute this.
no way #1 Kasparov #2 Fischer.#3 Lasker/Petrosian. He was amamzing

@iceman : some Robert contributions to chess:
- IGM level chess analysis and article writing(insight)
- Publication on how the Kings Gambit(which i just posted about how I destroyed) as a weak opening(knowledge)
- Help develop a modern way to teach chess with the "Bobby Fischer teaches Chess" Book(training)
- "Game of the Century"(hello!)
- Contributed to the "world wide" rise in the popularity of chess(especially in U.S.)
shall I continue...
- Contributions to chess opening theory(Ruy Lopez expert)
- The endgame of a rook, bishop, and pawns against a rook, knight, and pawns has sometimes been called the "Fischer Endgame" because of several instructive wins by Fischer(wiki)
- Invented a digital clock thats called the "Fischer clock" that became standard in most major chess tourneys....(also on wiki)
do you need more....lol.
Listen, Rob fisch was the best hands down, dude. if you need more proof ill post more :}>

Has to be Robert James, hands down.
Is it Robert or James? Make up your mind.
Robert James Fischer. u idiot. know b4 u speak :)

I'll be generic and go with what's pretty much the majority here.
Fischer and Kasparov. Who I consider the better of the two, I don't know, but I consider those two the best of all time. They're also probably the most famous, but that's not really indicative of much, if you ask me.
Edit: Never mind. It's Spock. Got to be Spock. He had a brilliance that combines the sheer logic of a vulcan, combined with the passion and intuition of a human. Hands down, it's Spock.

What? Now it's either Robert, James, or Fischer? Really, who is it? Just pick one!

Vasily Alexeev, even blindfolded, could have crushed all 3 of them. Strongest chess player of all time.
Fischer or maybe Capablanca
