The best chess player ever
So who does everyone think is the best player ever I would say Kasparov or Karpov
Those players do not compare to Houdini 3 or even to Rybka 4.

Those players do not compare to Houdini 3 or even to Rybka 4.
Of course they don't.
Both play chess, while Houdini can only count ones and zeroes.

True.
I guess its a matter of perspective whether a computer is a player or not. We're all programmed by our envirionment, parents, friends. Computers are programmed too, but with ones and zeros.

But the best ever will always be NN
i doubt NN deserves to be listed among the very best, though he is certainly very experienced
Computers are not players. If they want to be players, they have to deal with real life stuff just like other players do. Thus they would have to run on older software / older hardware and be dealing with having malware on their system and dealing with that while trying to make a decision of moves.
Players can not always play their best because they did not get enough sleep or are dealing with a fever or stomach problems due to undercooked food.
Computers work too often in a pristine condition.
An old man could say the same thing to a boy because he doesn't get aches in his joints. I don't think having frailities makes a computer less human. Not having a neural network makes it less human. Now take the android Data for example. He was a fully sentient person, even though he was also a machine.

so i think that computers are out of the reconing. they are machines, they can make the best move in every situation, can you beat that? No! humans do not make perfect moves all the time, therefore there is a chance to improve. Do you want to play against something that makes perfect moves all the time/ probablyy not. computers don't count

How to annoy people on a chess website:
Step 1:Start a topic called "best chess player ever
Step 2:Enjoy
i just found an article from Kasparov on Bobby FIscher
one may judge a player's strength by comparing him with his contemporaries, it seems to me that Fischer's achievement is unsurpassed - the gap between him and his closest rivals was the widest there ever was between a World Champion and the other top-ranking players of his time. He was some 10-15 years ahead of his time in his preparation and understanding. This could be attributed in part to his dedication to the game, which was unequalled by any other player before or since.

Surely Kasparov was not considering Carlsen when he spoke at that timesince Carlsen was probably a teenager then, but if he were to speak now, Magnus would be the first to receive acclaim for being the best ever!

Carlsen isnt 15 years ahead of his competitor, he is really good but not that good.

That's because chess reaching its end in terms of new theories - at least it is possible to say. Additionally, Carlsen is a good amount of years ahead of any competitor at this time.
