A high school player I coached finally became a strong player -in scholastic tournaments and decided to humiliate an unrated newbie in a first-round Swiss System tournament where I was the USCF Tournament Director.
He decided to see how many Pawns he could Queen before applying mate. His teammates checked out his board from time-to-time and he smiled at them in a boastful way as he slowly crushed his opponent who kept playing on without resigning.
But he ended up with too many Queens - about 6 - and STALEMATED his opponent. I was informed of the situation at that point and walked over to his board in time to see the sick look on his face. He deserved that for his meanness! The rest of his teammates laughed about it for the next month!
when i played someone and then they disconnected and reconnected and then disconnected over and over again for the whole game
obviously my opponent was stuck in the 1970s and was using a dialup modem to connect to the INternet.
why did people use such things for connecting to the Internet back in the 1970s?
