The Biggest Secret to Gaining Rating

We can agree to disagree, I'm tired of arguing about it.

I'm not arguing with you.

Why don't you like the word, "retarded"?

It seemed like an argument to me.

But either way, let's drop the subject.

There was no reason for @pfren or you to say something so rude and ridiculous. If you want to call it a video game, fine. But please don't add such an offensive description.

Let's suppose you put a lot of cherry syrup on top of elephant dung. Guess what? It's still sh&t, not a dessert.

Blitz isn't that bad, blitz may be retarded but it isn't complete feces. I would compare blitz to a rubbish drink with added sugar, but I wouldn't go as far as comparing it to what comes out of our bottoms.

The talk is about bullet.

In blitz, you do have a little time available to play something like chess. Not the case with bullet.

If this was true then Magnus Carlsen would be equally as capable as an amateur at bullet chess if this was the case.

So not having time to play chess properly equates to the time control being worth animal feces? Brilliant logic @pfren. Can we drop this discussion, I feel it is getting ridiculous.

Hmm, harsh. Alas, I’ve had this conversation a million times, and there’s no changing your mind, so let’s just agree to disagree.

True. No use arguing if that's the way the conversation's going to go. Bullet isn't good but that was uncalled for.

Bullet is a retard video game. Fact.

What so blitz & rapid are longer versions of a retarded video game? Wow, even my colleagues couldn't figure that out. The whole chess community needs to hear this ground-breaking discovery.

I think that's overkill. The community is already reeling from your other discoveries, this would cause riots.

But seriously, let's direct our attention away from this argument.

Zaid_Mir

1. Learn a solid opening for white and black pieces, and stick to it for a while.
2. Play longer games - longer games result in better quality games.
3. Do chess puzzles everyday and take your time getting them right. Puzzles will help you learn various checkmate patterns and tactics that lead to winning positions.
4. Study middle and end game theory, but end game theory should be more prioritized, because in the end game, very subtle moves can make a huge difference in your position.
5. Don't play a ton of mindless games. Play a few long games every day. Win or lose, thoroughly analyze them and learn from your mistakes.
6. Practice consistently.
7. Set the rating range to - 50 to + 25. (Normally, 2 of your opponents would be slightly lower rated than you, while your third opponent would be roughly the same rating or slightly higher than you. This way you will maintain your current rating and also slowly go up the rating ladder, considering you follow the rest of the tips i listed)

Good luck

That's right, you just made a discovery, although I'm not sure as to the originality of it.

1. I agree. Even if the opening isn't cutting-edge, knowing it well typically is enough.

4. Many high-level teachers have proposed learning endgames first, but be wary, at lower levels many games do not get to endgames, but overall endgames are underrated.

6. Yes. Breaks typically cause tilt upon return.

7. This range seems a little small, but it will reduce humorous situations like the one I posted in the original post.
