Now I remember, once I lost connection while having a worse position in a blitz game. After returning I had this note in my wall:
"Such a typical communist behaviour, you ran when faced with difficulties"
ha!

I agree with jurassicmark. I'm not saying it's the end of the world...it just gets old you know. Although I agree with Prudentia that FP violations will never fully go away, we could mitigate them a bit more. It will just make the experience more positive for everyone except the FP violators.
@ SocialPanda Sorry someone left that rude and narrowminded comment on your wall.
Anybody remember the warn feature on aol chat? Just have a button appear when the notice of the 'fair play policy' comes up and click it. If a player completes enough games w/o doing that, the number goes down. In short, punishment for negative behavior, positive reinforcement for good behavior.
I admit that I have rage quitted like that before a couple of times. Probably everybody has. Doesn't make it okay though :)
I have never rage quitted.
Neither have I.

I'm not perfect, but I value honest admittals.

wow, wrong again. it's called sarcasm and ambivalent cynicism in reference to your groups choice of topics.
I'm inclined to think it's called a Freudian Slip.

Thats funny :-D This cheech1981 writes blogs about sore losers and how to avoid them. I just played 2 Bullet-games against him, won both and declined the third one (well dude, how many games do you expect?). Then he called my play "garbage" and said i am only lucky and a runner.
Very,very bad sports yourself, cheech1981...

In most cases if you start giving rematches, you have to keep giving rematches until you lose a game.
Then you are going to be called "loser" and the opponent will dissapear in a fraction of a second.
Not talking about this user, I don't know him, but in general

someone's been reading my diary...
In all honesty, it doesn't negatively impact my emotions when a person disconnects. It never hurts to take your eyes off the computer screen and get a couple minutes of rest. I just block people after the game and be done with it. I was just posting the above things as a possible deterrent. Either way, it's a part of internet chess and it will never go away.
If it's an honest disconnect, than I agree. But, if it's somebody violating the fair play policy by wasting a significant part of my day, then It's emotional for me!!! I get really angry when somebody wastes 20 minutes of my time. And, your idea has loads of merit because it is a deterrent, as you said. I'm just not sure the implementation works, but, maybe with more brainstorming...
