The "cheat" is that you're just not that good

Before you write another post about how you were defeated by a "cheater", ask yourself: "Could it be that they were just a much better player than myself?" They "cheated" you by studying chess books. By doing tactic puzzles. They tricked you by learning endgame patterns. They swindled you by improving their clock management with Puzzle Battle. Etc. They probably didn't cheat you at all. You cheated yourself, by wasting your time playing the same weak moves in every game, never stopping to analyze your mistakes, and never bothering with tactic puzzles. You played too much bullet and then tried to play blitz, but your garbage moves didn't work anymore in 3-minute games. Also, people's rating may not reflect their depth of skill and experience, which may be much greater than yours. They may be in a slump lately or have health problems. But they may not truly belong at your rating level. Once that person is healthy, feels well, gets some chess momentum and start winning games -- and their board vision improves -- they'll show their true ability and you may be surprised that they have such a low rating, but played so well. This does not mean that they cheated. It means that their skill is superior to yours. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Nowadays the excuse for losing is "my opponent used an engine".

A hundred years ago, there were no chess computers (The Turk aside), so people had to find a different excuse for losing chess games.

Usually, it was "I didn't feel well".

Tartacower once remarked that he had never beaten a healthy man.

Amen to that (I’m not even Christian lol)!

I never cheat in Chess. It's a shame.

But I know that in Rapid games cheating is very easy thing.

Somebody here even instructed people how to do it.

You need only a second smart-phone.

At least some of you get it. I don't expect this place to change though, but I still like chess.com the best. The beginners can continue griping about cheaters for another decade or two, for all I care.

“How did he see I blundered mate in one??! A cheater! Everyone, report him!”

”HE PLAYED LIKE A GOD! He took advantage of the weaknesses in my position! No one can do that!”
