Strip-chess?
The chessworld is practically remoted!
I AGREE WITH PELLIK WE COULD HAVE A CRESS -BOARD WITH REAL SOLDIERS AND CAVELRY RAIDING A CASTLE TO KILL THE KING AND RESCUE THE QUEEN
Redesigning the game on chess.com to look similar to this would be a start.
Privately sponsored tournaments of elementary and high school level play with substantial prize money on a national scale would undoubtedly increase interest and participation in the game. Especially if the top level matches were funded at an adequately high level.
Without some such incentive, chess will not compete with the interactive, visual, fast paced video games which are so popular with todays youth.
There will of course always be the few individuals that take up the game with concentrated interest.

Chessboxing didn't pushed boxers to chess clubs neither chessplayers on the rings!
I guess that we need a radically new concept for opening up chess to other vibrant cultures and vice versa!!
