You can get from a complete beginner to 1500 in less than a year. But going from 1500 to 2500 could take decades if ever.

Sure there are those who can do it a lot faster, and those that can do it slower. Likewise, we have 12-13 year old gms, but I just wanted to emphasize the difference in effort required to get to 1500 and from 1500 to GM. The better you get, more difficult and slower it takes to gain FIDE points.

nah tbh you have no actual chess talent if you've been playing for 5 years and are barely 1500 you have no talent being a prodigy requires talent no matter what age you start

I would say that a 1200 is strong relative to the general public and weak compared to the club player community (who in turn are weak compared to the pros). The term expert has a specific meaning in chess lexicon that refers to players 2000-2200 strength OTB.

@Hikaru75 - Material odds between 2000 & 2400 is 1.75 pawns. Material odds between 600 & 1000 is 7 pawns
@xor_eax_eax05 - The only real way to find out about your ELO rating is to play OTB tournaments. I'm rating 1500 in USCF and my rapid rating here is 1600, which is pretty accurate. You are simply deluded by the extensive rating inflation in sites like Lichess and gameknot, because everyone's starting rating is so high.
Not sure what you mean, I already said I dont play in Lichess and on Gameknot you start at 1200. Hardly extensive inflated ratings because "starting rating is so high".
As a matter of fact the highest rated players on GK are hovering above 2600 elo, just like the best Daily players on this site.
Anyway, here's another very equal game of mine against a 2000+ player who unfortunately blundered by pushing the h pawn on move 34. Note how Im in time to crown a Queen and then hold a King and 3 connected pawns with just a Queen before bringing in the King.
