THE ENPASSANT RULE IS SO DUMB

you spend all game walking your pawn down the board, and your opponent just hops past it. players used to duel over it.
so they invented En Passant ("in passing") to give players one opportunity to take.
why has the rule persisted? my guess is it adds a bit of complexity to an otherwise simple minor piece and spices up the game by making it a bit harder in an interesting way.
I like the rule. most people do. makes pawns more interesting.

YOU GET THE ENEMY PAWN TO GO ONE DOWN AND THEN YOU MOVE 2 UP AND THEN THEY KILL YOU????? BRUH
Bro... r u like a 100 rated or smth? BRO EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS AND IT... nvm it is kinda dumb.
It used to be that pawns could only move 1 square at a time. At one point game was sped up by the fact that pawns could move 2 squares from initial starting position but this created a problem, you can create a passed pawn just by going past a close opposing pawn which previously was impossible. Hence the en passant rule was created to prevent this.
