The evidence that 'probably' drove Short to think he was playing Bobby online in 2001

Sorry about that, but I was not trying to fact check you. perhaps cap is not quite so worthy of me joshing him after all.
He won but the positional skills were absolutely horrendous he didn't actually play above his rating that game

I was tilting he doesn't really deserve respect anyway probably souldv played the grob
I wouldn't listen to my games with him if I were you im one of those people that go too easy on beginners and intermediates and suck against them

the transposition to the queens gambit is my worse opening setup as white, why i play 1c4 not 1d4
i want to play you as black but youll probably keep me off my theory again
If you play like a 1600 with prep that's bad

These elements, combined with the mystique surrounding Fischer and his elusive nature, might have convinced Short that he was facing the legendary player.

Aight. So You have literally no photo-evidence of that thing or game? Nothing..
Why are you creating this theory? Who wants to even know it...
i have a copy of the games played i will post it here

To be fair to the OP it is not entirely out of the question that Short could have played some patzer cheating with an engine and mistaken that for a superlative legitimate player.

That is an interesting idea. But, I have been led to believe that the ability to detect Cheating accurately is strongly related to Chess ability (provided that the player concerned is relatively free of bias).
Your thoughts, sir!

Some top players are indeed very good at spotting engine-like play (I would not claim I was an example, but even I have spotted several suspected cheats at daily chess, reported them and mostly seen them banned) but it's worth remembering this story is from a different era.

Back in 2001, the strongest engine was probably Fritz 7, which performed at ~ 2600-2650 ELO at blitz when run from $10.000+ hardware of that era.

I'm not a top player, but it's quite obvious (to me) that the games from that match were engine-assisted.
The mysterious guest played the first few moves of each game on his own, then used engine-assistance for the remainder of the game.
It's nothing spectacular - just typical engine cheating (or "progging" as some players called it, back then).
At the time, there were already several engines available with which one could cheat. The Chessmaster game's "The King" engine, for example, which was certainly strong enough to swindle Grandmasters in blitz ... Also available at the time were Shredder, Fritz, Crafty ...
Take no notice of them, cap78, they are just jealous!
I played him he plays like a 1600 100%
