The greatest players

We tend to give glory to the best players ever to their creativity and marvel at their games. Yet I don't think we stop to think at how much time these great players spent studying the books of their time, took the time to shuffle their pieces and look at the positions on their own (Nimzovich and Botvinnik for sure), and played against strong players to learn from. Fischer studied past games in the morning and read a book at night. After all it was his job. I'm sure they knew the openings they played, and the different ways you can play strategically or for checkmates. Best to them for their studies and brilliant play. May you be encouraged to study hard and play well too.
