The King Performance

I own one. To maximize the strength you set it on one of the time-based levels, such as tournament, blitz, etc. A level other than easy, fun, fixed depth, or matefinder. Then leave the playing options like randomness at zero, playing style as normal. It will then play supposedly around 2500, actually.

Thanks DaMaBu. I read in the instructions the same as you are saying but it would of been more easy to use if the manufacturers had just used levels say 1 being the easiest to say 30 being the strongest at 2500elo. I think also it has too many functions which in my opinion most chess players won't use. What do you think about the feature of adding or subtracting percentages of the pieces, this is one aspect which I don't understand? Maybe this is a function of increasing the playing strength, I don't know.

Good question about the percentages. These are for creating your own playing personalities. I've had some fun doing that. Each percentage modifies the computer's sense of the importance of an evaluation feature. Less than 100% makes that less important to the computer, more than 100% makes it more important. So you can make a super-aggressive personality by lowering its king safety importance and increasing its emphasis on the opponent's king safety (i.e., more determined to lower the opponent's king safety; it took me a while to understand that). But I suspect that it's difficult to increase the computer's strength by creating a personality/style, since the developer probably figured out through long testing what the best values were, and those settings would be what 100% is. But it's still fun. Also, you're right - there are lots of features, and some people will want more simplicity. This is what the new Comfort menu and levels are all about. Have you installed software update 1.42? If not, check at Millennium's website.

I have already got update 1.42 it came with the board when delivered thanks. I have read the instructions again and found that you can reduce the computers strength by lowering the processors number from 300mhz in multiples of 10. I remember seeing in either the instructions or youtube video that there is supposedly infinite levels of difficulty. I may be wrong but getting back to the percentages what if you lower all the computer settings from 100 to say 50. This would make the computer less strong as it wouldn't value its pieces as much. Then if you like you could make the user even stronger by increasing the users values making the computer more wary of the said user. I have also emailed the manufacturer Millenium about the levels of difficulty but they just said that I must be on the Comfort setting but with my King there is an easy setting on both the Comfort and the Expert. Question, what is the highest number elo you can see on the lcd screen as mine goes nowhere near 2500elo. Cheers.

I'm not certain about your percentages question. Note that if you changed all the percentages to 50%, it might not change the strength much, because for example, it would still value its own pieces as much as yours. Same with raising them all the 200%. Also, about not seeing 2500 as an ELO level setting, note that you're only seeing the ELO levels on the Easy settings. The full strength levels are the non-Easy, non-Fun levels.

Also, the ELO 2500 isn't an explicit setting choice you select, it's just known through testing by various users and experts to have around that ELO level. But again, not on the Easy levels and Fun levels. The Easy and Fun levels intentionally degrade the playing strength to give ordinary users a chance.

What's been throwing me off for the time I've had the King is that the easy levels in the Comfort settings are exactly the same as the ones in the Expert settings. I have just speed read the instructions (for the 3rd time) and it says they are the same with that being the elo ratings. Now finally with a bit of detective work and your help I feel I am getting somewhere. Just wondering would you like a game?
