It's a great book.
A fantastic book. Chernev not only instructs, he conveys a lot of his own aesthetic pleasure to the reader. One of my earliest chess book purchases.
I think chess books are now put through a computer to check for errors. That was the job of a human proof reader in the past and errors did slip through.
Which Irvin Chernev book are we discussing?
I believe that Batsford has been selling an algebraic version of the book. Perhaps there has been some error correction along the way.

Um...The most Instructive Games of Chess ever played
Yes, I saw this book mentioned so much on this forum that I checked out a library copy and thought it was great, at least for the type of book it is (viz., a collection of games). Here's one game I liked from the book that helped me with rook-pawn endgames:
Chernev, Irving. 1965. The Most Instructive Games of Chess Ever Played: 62 Masterpieces of Chess Strategy. New York: Dover Publications, Inc.
In that book there's a caricature of two kings playing chess.
One king is mockful, standing behind him is the queen. On his board are king and queen.
Opposite the mockful king is a sad- looking king. Behind him,is an equally sad,- looking bishop.
On the board is King and Bishop.
If you can't grasp the humor of the caricature, you're not a Chesser !
This is a great book!! It is in descriptive notation but still exellent! I was on another chess forum on face book about chess books, I mentioned that the first game I went through I found an error. This is a major pet peeve of mine. Any one have any comments about the book or can I expect a lot of this?
