The problem with rating on daily chess

Rating changes at the end of a game are based on your current rating relative to to your opponent, not the ratings when you started the game.

I started against a player almost two weeks ago when we were on a similar rating, since then my rating  has improved by about a hundred points, now if I win I will only get 4 points but a loss is -10

Would it not make more sense for the possible rating change to be locked from the start of the game? And not subject to change based on rating changes that happen while the game is in progress?

No. The rating change should be based on a rating that is actually reflecting the players' relative strength. If your rating increased by 100 points in two weeks, it probably wasn't stable yet. You are not really 100 pts stronger than 2 weeks ago, are you? You were just underrated.

I just noticed this... I'm rated 1200+ and started a game against a 1200 player who turned out to be *brand new* to the site. While we played, their rating dropped to 1100-something and now it's 1000-something. At the beginning, I would have gained a few points from winning and lost a few points from losing, but now those numbers are shifting (you can see them on the "Info" tab of the game page). Before the game is over, I might only gain one point from winning and lose 10 or more from losing.

(I think I understand why they do it this way, but it's still frustrating to think I'm going into a game with a 1200-something player but later find out I'm in a game with a 1000-and-dropping player and won't gain anything from winning.)

You'll gain the win. That's what chess is about.

Imagine your game goes on for 2 month, if you get defeated, it is the same you two months ago? You advanced in time and your moves changed in accordance with your progress.

So your current rating is involved with your win or loss.
