The quality of threads on this site is awful

Yes, I'm going to be that guy. Now I'm not an incredibly strong player or anything, but I've been playing for a pretty long time. Can we please get rid of the following:

  • Games you're proud of that don't really showcase anything instructive. I see a lot of low-rated players posting games that are already won by move ten via a series of blunders and capped off with a brutal, over-the-top checkmate. Those aren't good games- they're roadkill.
  • Half-hearted analysis. If you're going to analyse, do it properly. Give concrete variations with good formatting and notation, not some half-assed out-of-order brainstorm that leaves users confused. Also, if your rating is in the three digits, keep in mind that some of the users who frequent the forums are master-level players who will view you as complete a-holes if you try to act knowledgeable. Humble yourself, especially if you don't have anything good to contribute.
  • Overly general discussion posts. I'm not going to name any in specific, but you've all seen these: cliched questions about something like rematches, flagging your opponent, opponent not resigning etc

I believe that if we stop encouraging these lousy posts, people will start generating interesting posts, Both the community and overall atmosphere of the this site will improve.

Lorgish

What we should really do is remove comments on openings, and famous games. Because you get 500 players posting games where they miss mate in 1 for 8 moves.

I am in total agreement with Nimzo.

I am in total disagreement with Nimzo and Monie49 (and the other 48 Monies).

Weaker players have exactly the same right to feel proud of their games and show them to us. Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to look at them.

Yet another low quality post

I am glad you brought this up. I will post one of my games later today to help illustrate how it should be done.

You have not even played a single game yet...

Id say this is another low quality thread added to the mix.

The OP addresses 3 main corncerns, I'll address them in the order he said them. (His three paragraphs)

1. I mean I've never posted any game of any sort, but it's nice to see people post games they are happy with and then be told that actually they aren't the best. I mean it's good for the poster as they are brought down to earth, and are usually given advice on chess by better players. Always good to see. Anyway some of those games are actually interesting enough. I'd rather that there are lots of posts, 1/5 of which are good, instead of players not wanting to post their games due to backlash.

2. Some people just don't know how to analyse. So they give their attempt, if it's bad then other players can help them improve it. The only way people will learn how to do better analyses is if other players help them. You learn by making mistakes and being publicly shamed.

3. I mean your recent post about women in chess and especially this thread contain concerns which have been raised 100 times over. Why not simply add a comment to an older thread? There are even some active ones on these topics. This concern has been raised every single day and more or less every thread about rematches or timing out or something is met by sarcastic backlash.

4. The community doesn't support these at all, and we can't make it more clear for people. We do by no way encourage them. This site ain't gonna get any better anytime soon.
