The "inner voice" in chess

In The Road To Chess Improvement, Alex Yermolinsky writes that "you have nothing as important as your intuitive feelings to rely on. They should be listened to." To drive the point home, he analyzes a lost game where "I was whispered over and over 'Don't Do It'. But (...) I decided to show my inner voice that I am not a slave of his."

All this is fine for Alex, but my inner voice either keeps quiet, or says something stupid, such as "This position sucks", or "Do it!" I just hope it could shut up and let me play.

And please leave the swords at home, no blood and no yelling, just make the move, stop the clock, and write your moves down
