This is a great article! For some reason attention seekers get 10x more comments a day than useful ones like this.

I spend much time in openings. But if you want to beat stronger player than you, specialize  in the endgame. Often by using my opening advantage, i get into equal or better endgame with much stronger player than me in decisive tournaments. But due to wrong maneuvers and tricks i always end up loosing a perfect game.

Try the book Basic Endgames and a book on endgames (by John Bartholomew) in Chessable, both for free. And watch John Bartholomew’s video on rook endgames on YouTube. With this stuff you have already some ideas how to play the endgame. If you Master both books, you can purchase the book 100 Endgames You Should Know, also available in Chessable (but not for free). After these three books you have already what you need for your whole career as a chess player.

The road to master level starts in childhood.

Most emphasis in below 1800 ELO must be put on tactics. Tactics are extremely important and most of the games are tactically decided.

Strategy must also be studied alongside tactics.

For below 1800 ELO basic chess endings would be enough.

Openings must be studied too even for below 1800 ELO but student does not need to go too deep into the opening. Without a fair knowledge of the opening the player may lose many games over the board for getting into  bad positions in middle game or even become victim of opening traps. Another advantage of studying openings is that  student  learns lots of chess strategy and chess tactics, therefore, the advice that chess players do not need to study openings until they reach 2100 ELO is bad as rarely any player can ever reach 2100 ELO otb without good knowledge of the opening.

After 1800 ELO, student needs to focus more on endgame study but he should still keep working on his tactics and calculation skills; once the player reaches 1900 ELO he can start deeper study of the opening and intricate positional play. This course of study must continue till he reaches 2000 ELO. Books are better than database as they explain the ideas behind the moves.

I don't know what a 1800 player should learn, see my rating.
