I am surprised noone has made a thread about this guy yet.  If someone has I apologize.  It is astounding how many subscribers and views that he gets.  Is he known for something else other than playing chess online?  What is up with so many amateur players wanting to make "instructional" videos playing live blitz on youtube?  He is so bad.  His games are riddled with mistakes.  My 2 minute games are pretty bad as well and I wouldn't dare post them online and try to be instructive in them its just ridiuclous.

He's known for playing Call of Duty apparently.

I don't mind lower rated players posting their games online, but to try to be instructive is just silly.

I write a daily blog about how I try to improve at www.chessiq.com/blog, but I'd never tell people who are rated higher than I am what it would take for them to get better...I just say what it is that makes me better.

The best way to retain information is to teach. I spent a long time studying opposite colored bishop endings but had trouble trying to retain it all; one day just on a whim I started to show a friend everything I had learned and came up with all the positions out of my head.

Now I actually feel really comfortable with that information and I can recall it much more easily. Funny thing was, my friend. He didn't even know how to play chess. lol. So I might as well have been teaching to a brick wall. but the process of explaining really helped me learn.

I'm not sure wheter any of you have been rated 800 or less once in your life? (rating in comparison to this website, of course)  In case you haven't I'll tell you why his videos are so attractive tocertain people.

His video show a playing style, decision making and yes, mistakes, to which a player below 800 can relate easily. I myself started at 400 and reached 900. I also have seen and watched some of his chess video, altough i did it for entertainement, rather then for learning. Personally, if I want instructional content I watch other videos or read books, posts and blogs about chess. The problem is that often blogs and videos from people with high rating require a lot of knowledge to understan, which in turn means time and effort. But even if it is an easy, simple topic, people with a high rating take some knowledge for granted, which is often not the case with people under 800.

This is why i can really imagine that people who just want to play chess casually, people who just want to have some fun and still want to learn a thing or two, might be attracted to his videos.

He is famous for playing other video games and plays games that he enjoys. Chess is a game he likes and I don't see him putting out teaching content

He combined his great personality with his love for videogames and created a YT channel that's a big hit.
I played chess with the guy before he had his great success.
Good for you, Hutch!

My son has a youtube channel with about 10k subs and he gets paid all the time. He makes more than one might make from a part time job and he's only 12. Hutch must be rolling in it.
