After starting a game then something more important comes up. Would you rather keep your opponent waiting instead of resigning and taking care of the more important situation at hand?
There are many reason why people resign early.

Someone? Me.
Playing 30+0.
Why do I play this time format? It's a tragedy waiting to happen.
I always play perfect games (for my standards), try to manage the time as best as I can, but then miss M1 because I have 10 seconds. You do the puzzle rush, you understand the importance of spotting simple tactics fast... It just makes no sense to play a long rapid game that ends in a +0 flag-fest...
So at first you are like ok who cares, you lose some... But then the ego of like "HOWWW do you play so well and then miss mate in 1?" it really bothers me... The fact that my inability to find one more simple move... Chess is a game of 1 tempo... It's always that 1 tempo... It's really tough to feel this contradicting emotions on one hand proud of the game on the other again and again "just one more move" losses..
