Hi :) i read in many articles that it's a good habit to do 15 minutes of basic tactic puzzles. It warms up the mind and solving them gives confidence.
Things that people do to clear their mind before a chess game

yes very good tip by Gabriele, you should do some simple tactics before a game or play through the opening lines you might get in the game in your head. You can compare chess with a sport like soccer. Soccer players always do a warm-up to get ready and prepared for the game. In chess its the same. Just try to "warm up" your head and prepare mentally for the upcoming fight. Eating something healthy surely cant be wrong too. Cheers, Till

Oh yeah, no doubt.
Before playing long games online, I play a couple of Blitz games. Gets the juices flowing and gets me in the right frame of mind for a serious game.

I do like some simple to median tactics puzzles also. After good sleep is also an obvious scenario but, after sex sometimes, I find myself with a clear mind, if I am not too tired.... lol

Great ideas for online. Any ideas for tournaments with school etc.?
I think, with the exception of Paradox's suggestion of sex, all the ideas can be used for tournaments at school.

Also, any idea on how to do tactics puzzles with a standard board?
1. Look at the puzzle.
2.Set-up the pieces to match the puzzle.
3. Work out a solution.
4. Move the pieces in the tactics puzzle.
5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 until you have successfully solved the puzzle.
Just wondering if people have any ideas for things to clear the mind of distractions pre-game in tournaments.
