Puzzles can take multiple moves, here, it is mate in 2. 1. … Re8 2. Qg6+ Kg8 3. Qxg7#
Sorry, I meant Qg7#. This also works if the king goes to h8.
Oh wait, yeah Qxg7#. I forgot about that pawn.

But at this point of the puzzle the King is only in check, isn't that correct?
After Qg6+, Kh8 or Kg8 does not escape mate. Nothing does. Qxg7# is checkmate and the end of the game.
Basically the puzzle is a mate in two moves puzzle, it is not mate after the first move.

This is a puzzle where white is to checkmate black. I tried to figure it out but there didn't seem to be any way, so I took the hint and this is what it showed me, Qg6. But this doesn't look like checkmate to me, more like a check and the King can escape the check. Yes?
