This actually wasn't Scholar's Mate attempted. 1. e4 e5 2. Qh5 is the Wayward Queen opening (also objectively bad just like trying Scholar's Mate). If White was trying Scholar's Mate, then they would play 3. Bc4 and hope for Qxf7# with a 4-move checkmate; instead your opponent just played 3. b4??
This move gives me reason to believe they just played an "attacking" Queen move and actually were not trying to follow any opening they knew.
The "real reason" to avoid cheap openings like this Wayward Queen Opening or Scholar's Mate is because they neglect "chess opening principles" and that gives the other player a chance to use opening principles and this results in the player not doing this getting an inferior position. Furthermore, these cheap opening tricks will not work against higher rated players enough to justify playing them.
