I play when I can, it is not always possible to play two games like this. Perhaps tournaments would suit him better. I wish my girlfriend moaned in bed as good as he does about chess.

That's a great point about tournaments - OP, that is what you should be gunning for if you want enforced/known match structure along with enforced victory/defeats.

I think it is fair practice to ask your opponent if they are open to playing a two out of 3 match sometime in the first game even if you loose. I don’t chat in games, but I will ask that question! If they don’t, then I just “Forgettaboutit!” Open a new game with a new opponent and don’t get all butt hurt! Who cares!

Probably already stated but have you considered that someone might only have time for one game before work or some commitment? I have often refused a rematch because I need to get back to work or something.

How very exciting, bumping a three year old thread ! 😫

I never rematch because of the engine cheaters. What's the point of playing someone twice if they're just going to spend all the time smirking smugly behind their screen?

Why would anyone accept your rematch if you have beaten him and he is higher rated then you ?????

Avatar of congrandolor

Giving rematch and offering draw when your opponent has a superior position but running out of time is mandatory for a gentleman chess player.

had a rematch recently after I drew a won game, won the next one. He offered another rematch but I declined it, I think one is enough.

also I should be doing homework now that I think about it

Try playing in an over-the-board tournament, and demanding a rematch when you lose.

Go on, see what they say.

I'm sure there are times where that is the reason but I don't think that's the case most of the time.

No. Just no. You know who asks for rematches? The player that lost. Losers ask for rematches. Are you a loser? Just hit the New Game button and move on.

It is their right to be able to refuse rematch, and there is nothing wrong with it. Of course, it is always good to get an opponent that will accept a rematch, but even if they don't, it is a normal part of the game.

I always grant at least a single rematch when requested to do so, except when my opponent has clearly engaged in poor sportsmanship. Doing so is simply good manners and good sportsmanship. It is uncommon around the world to offhandedly decline a rematch request in casual OTB blitz play. Those who do so are often shunned as the boors they are. I see no reason why behavior in online play should be different to that in OTB play.
