Time Out Against My Will

is it something to do with wifi? I have timed out on two games recently (and I was winning!! rare) because in one case it looked like it was not even my move, and in the other case my move did not "take"...anyone else have this problem or is Chess.com have a vendetta against me?!

Yeah, wifi is a prime contender for why you might have had a temporary disconnect and lost the game, but there are others.  Hopefully these articles will help....

Oh the #1 tip not mentioned in the articles is to refresh your page if the opponent seems to be taking a longer time than usual to move.  Just in case there has been a temporary disconnect and a move may have been lost in transit to or from the server.  Hope that helps...
